Each painting is a journey, and one never knows where it will lead, or what will be encountered along the way. I become lost in the process of painting, and am often surprised and exhilarated at journeys end.
Rarely do I begin painting on a blank canvas, but rather first apply a solid color background, or loose color wash, which may or may not be visible in the finished piece. Sometimes this background becomes a reference point or integral part of the composition. Other times it is completely obliterated, yet still influences the color palette.
The one unifying factor throughout all my work is bold use of saturated color. There had always been a strong drawing influence in my work, but my current focus on abstraction has enabled me to break free of the outline. The paint is no longer simply a means of expression, it has become the essence of the subject and composition.
I am a graduate of Maryland Institute College of Art. My work is in several private collections on the east coast, and I have exhibited throughout the Baltimore area.
